Set Up Your Bedroom for Better Sleep
Adults need at least seven hours of sleep a night. Your bedroom setup plays a big part in how quickly you fall asleep and how often you wake up.
Keep it cool
Most people sleep best in a cool room. Breathable cotton sheets help if you sleep warm, and layering a blanket lets you adjust through the night.
Block light and noise
Use curtains that block outside light, or wear an eye mask. A fan or white noise can cover sounds from traffic or a busy house.
Make the bed a sleep zone
Try to keep work, bills and late-night scrolling out of bed. Charge your phone across the room so it’s not the last thing you see.
Keep bedding fresh
- Wash sheets and pillowcases every week or two.
- Replace pillows when they stay flat.
- Air out the mattress and rotate it as the maker recommends.
- Talk to your doctor if poor sleep lasts more than a few weeks.
